We're SOILbrating a major milestone! The homes and businesses composting with CompostNow's services have diverted over 100 million pounds of food scraps from landfills!


Our story began in 2011 in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a mission to keep food scraps out of landfills and create compost for our community. From a small team and a handful of members, our collective impact has grown because individuals who believe that small, every day actions can add up to a big difference.


One scrap at a time, our members have diverted over 100 million pounds of food scraps – let's break down that impact in a special, 100M Impact Report!





100M Pounds Impact By The Numbers


100M pounds of food scraps diverted is equivalent to:

  • CO2 Avoided: 260,000,000 pounds

    • Methane (CO2e) Avoided: 10,400,000 pounds

    • Equivalent to Miles Driven: 291,915,882 miles (That's like driving round trip to Mars!)

    • Equivalent to Cars Taken Off the Road (1 Year): 25,384 cars

    • Equivalent to Trees Planted: 590,909 trees


  • Compost Created: 33,000,000 pounds

    • Tomato Plants Supported: 16,500,000 plants

    • Tomatoes Grown: 247,500,000 tomatoes

The Craziest Finds

Every once in a while we open a bin or container and say, "Woah." Here's a list of fun finds over the years:

  • A whole 3 ft fish!

  • A live garden snake!

  • An engagement ring!

  • An entire Edible Arrangement…including the vase!

  • Family heirloom photos (our driver used the name on the back to find them on facebook and they were returned successfully)!
