Press Release: CompostNow is B Corp Certified
Raleigh, North Carolina, Nov. 16, 2023 – CompostNow is excited to announce that after a long and thorough process, the company is officially a Certified B Corporation!
In 2022, CompostNow began the rigorous process of becoming a B Corporation, a business framework that balances purpose and profit. B Corporations represent a global movement of people using business as a force for good, and the assessment process covers all areas of business operations, from topics on governance and labor to suppliers and environmental policies.
Companies that score above 80 are invited to apply to become a B Corp, and after a ten-month verification and review process CompostNow is thrilled to be certified with a score of 84.9. In joining B Corp, CompostNow has aligned itself with 7,720 businesses across 150 industries, with just over 2,000 of them in the US and Canada.
“Becoming a B Corp aligns with our commitment to being transparent, accountable, and continuously improving, and the application process has allowed us to formalize and document many existing aspects of our work and deepen our commitment to doing good along the path of building a great business,” reflects David Paull, Chief Impact Officer at CompostNow.
For over a decade, CompostNow’s efforts have been grounded in a deep respect for its members, community, team, partners, and planet. Founded in 2011 in Raleigh, North Carolina, as part of a national grassroots movement, CompostNow has evolved from its early days of collecting food scraps in personal vehicles and on bike-powered-routes to become a diversified service provider that employs over 90 team members across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio.
CompostNow’s commitment to improving local soil health and quality of life for the team has guided its decision-making processes as the company scaled. Today, CompostNow is proud to offer elevated pay, comprehensive paid time-off programs, 401k plans, and health benefits for full and part-time employees. Meanwhile, the team’s commitment to soil health is epitomized by the Soil Give Back and Garden Partner Program, a testament to the belief in a closed-loop system that nurtures the planet.
“The exciting part about the B Corp guidelines is that they challenge us to continuously improve. It’s more than a milestone,” continues Paull, “it’s a continuation and deepening of our commitment to a better way forward.”
With the guidance and direction of the B Corp framework, the team at CompostNow looks forward to continuing to challenge its approach to business in a way that betters our planet, communities, and the people it works with.
